Introduction to the art of spinning poi. Your instructor will introduce you to the terms and formats used for the entire 6 Level Poi Training. Learn new moves each class while learning the basic structure of spinning poi. This foundation class is rewarding and also trains participants to develop and understand techniques that increases personal expression within the dance.
Moves include: front weave, back weave, 360 turns, windmill & chasing the sun

Level 2 - Expanding the Poi Realms
February 9th - March 2nd :: 4 Tuesdays 6:30-8pm
The confident poi spinning established in Level 1 is expanded on in Level 2.
New concepts, angles, structures and poi moves are introduced in these fast paced classes. Start learning how to turn and move while spinning the poi. Level 2 is challenging and you will learn 7 new poi move combinations within the
4 classes. Level 1 prerequisite or instructor approval required.
Moves include: butterfly, inverted butterfly, eclipse, low turn, high turn & transitions

Level 3 - Poi Possibilities
March 9th - March 30th :: 4 Tuesdays 6:30-8pm
Level 3 introduces more complex variations and transitions to the foundation poi moves mastered in the first 2 Levels. New advanced poi moves and the development of poi move creation possibilities are added to the classes. Individual poi spinning styles are incorporated into dance moves, turns and poi combinations that intermix with the awareness of soon adding fire to your dance. Level 2 prerequisite or instructor approval required.
Moves include: 008, advanced butterfly, threading the needle & inversions

Level 4 enters into the space of spinning addiction! The poi are now one with your body as you move freely inside the circle of light. Advanced Poi Instructors will introduce the technical spinning aspects that teach you there is no end to the equations, planes, timing, depth and beauty to this complex dance form. Level 3 prerequisite or instructor approval required.
Moves include: Quadruple corkscrew/windmill, BTB weave, flowers & spiral wraps

Level 5 is all about pushing the limits. Advanced spinners will now learn to develop the intricate angles and structures of the advanced technical aspect of poi spinning. Working with innovative techniques that allow you to leave class with the skills to further develop your personal style of Tech Spinning. This is a performance level class that integrates cutting edge moves, timing and music. Level 4 prerequisite or instructor approval required.
Moves include: anti spin, btb spiral, throws, wibbles, hybrid butterfly & 3:1 pendulums

In Level 6 imagination will surpass physics and your spinning will take flight! The poi rhythm, timing and spinning methods are incorporated to increase the flow between the Tech Spinning moves mastered in Level 5. To complete the circle we revisit the basics in an whole new way - with anti spin, split time and catches. Level 5 prerequisite or instructor approval required.
Moves include: airwraps, butterfly weave, split time butter crossers, throws, crossers

Poi Workshop and Class Details
Poi is a dynamic workout, a beautiful dance and a creative element endless in expression. Poi are weighted dance tools that are spun around the body in rhythmic patterns, when a light source is added the dance becomes an all encompassing art form full of personal expression.
Practicing poi can help in balancing, strengthening and stretching your entire upper body. This is an exercise and art that people of all ages enjoy learning. Poi is also an amazing workout for your mind and soul, a meditation method. The poi workshops and classes are challenging and rewarding with fun new tricks and moves each week!
Poi Pixies are offering poi workshops in 5 levels. Each Level will consist of 4 classes. Once completing these classes there is a advanced Fire Poi Dance Class offered that includes fire poi construction, safety, first aid, fuels, msds, fire theatrix, curing the poi and the first fire poi burn.
These classes will include all aspects of poi, introduction, poi history, dynamics and safety. Special focus on developing technique, position, transitions, combinations with layering and level changes along with promoting individual styles and feelings expressed throughout the dance. With every consecutive class you will be introduced to a structured new move to develop your knowledge of the movements and build your confidence of the art of spinning and twirling poi. Our experienced Poi Pixie instructors will take you through all the different levels offered from beginners to advanced choreography.
Original Pixie Poi are provided for all the classes and workshops, there are also brand new shiny pairs that would love to find a new home, your new best friends for all the practice time!
